In May 2009, Carat Sydney moved into the most environmentally responsible media or advertising agency offices in Australia, offices that are expected to earn a 4 to 5 green star rating. The new offices were selected after a rigorous evaluation process that put environmental sustainability at the top of the priority list. Carat businesses around the world are enthusiastic participants in the Aegis group’s “SEE Change” program, which focuses on Social, Environmental and Economic sustainability. A key part of this program is a group-wide commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 20% from 2008 levels by the end of 2010. During 2008, with the help of the newly-acquired sustainability experts, Clownfish, Aegis Media businesses around the world participated in a data collection exercise that has allowed a robust carbon benchmark to be established that will allow the group’s success in achieving the emissions reduction target to be credibly measured.

Also during 2008, Carat offices around the Asia Pacific region established local “Green Bean” environmental committees which were tasked with engaging staff at all levels to come up with programs to make tangible and meaningful positive changes in corporate behavior. Results to date have been very encouraging, with Carat businesses in Australia reducing power usage by 24% on average, using 40% less paper, and directly participating in environmental remediation projects.

Greener With Every Delivery

Carat Melbourne has teamed up with City Scooter Couriers as their main courier delivery company. CSC are Melbourne's first courier system that focuses on providing a carbon neutral service by offsetting all emissions that are used on delivery. In order to assist with the carbon offset, the Carat Melbourne team participated in an all- day tree planting at the local zoo.

My Boss Drives a Bike

Some management choose to drive big cars, some choose to drive a...10-speed bike. Carat Melbourne has taken a new spin on the company car to provide bikes for a source of office transport. The bikes are a perfect match to the company culture at Carat Melbourne by both providing a green mode of transportation, as well as an opportunity to sneak in some afternoon exercise.
